It’s not even June yet and already the weather has been extremely hot, which means despite it not *actually* being summer yet, now is the perfect time to start thinking about your 2020 approach to summer makeup. Is it possible to beat the heat and look fabulous doing it? That fact is that when it comes to summer makeup, the only thing that you should be smothering your face in in sunscreen. During the warmer months, minimal makeup looks should be your go-to, after all most of what you put on your face is most probably going to melt off anyway.
It’s for this reason that makeup artists always swear by super-lightwear, sheer summer looks, as this route will help to reduce the risk of your makeup forming a cakey disaster on your face. Baring that in mind, the question is: what makeup products and some synthetic wigs should you be using during the warmer summer months to achieve a flawless look and what application methods should you adapt to do so?
Layer up
Before even thinking about applying any base products, the first step is to layer up your skin. Start by applying a moisturiser with SPF protection incorporated into it, to protect your skin from unsightly sun damage. Then, one this has soaked in, apply your primer, to ensure that your cosmetics having something to stick to when applied, and won’t just glide off of your face. You can find some amazing cosmetics that are designed to ensure makeup perfection.
Swap out your foundation
For the hotter summer months, thick foundation is too much. There’s no need to be applying this much product to your face during the warmer months, as it’s most likely only going to melt off. Instead, it’s worth investing in a good tinted moisturiser or skin veil, such as a CC or BB cream. What you’re looking for is a product that gives adequate coverage without being overly thick or cakey. You want to select a lightweight product that soaks seamlessly into the skin.
Stick to cream products where possible
From your blush and highlighter to your eyeshadow, during the warmer months it’s a good idea to opt for cream-based products over powder-based ones. This is because when your face begins to sweat, this can cause powder-based products to form a cakey mess. Whereas, this doesn’t happen with cream-based products.
Set, set, set
If you want to give your makeup the best chance of staying in place for a longer period of time, make sure that you take the time to set your makeup into place. While powder does work well, it’s not the best option during the warmer months. Instead, you would be better advised to use a liquid setting spray to set your makeup solidly in place. You can even buy priming sprays for addition holding power.
Opt for water-resistant products
Using sweat-proof and water-resistant products can be a game-changer for summer makeup. When selecting your summer essentials, keep an eye out for products that are designed to resist water and should stay in place even in the pool. It’s not just mascara that’s available in a waterproof formula – most makeup has waterproof versions available, it’s just a case of finding the right ones for you.
