Although moving house is an incredibly exciting time, it can also be a really stressful experience for everyone involved. Whether you’re moving into your first house or moving for the fifth or sixth time, the stress moving causes never goes away. Whilst you can’t eliminate the stress completely, there are lots of little things you can do to ensure your move goes without a hitch. With that in mind, here are 6 things you need to consider before you move house:

 

What Is Your Budget?

One of the first things you need to consider is the budget you have available for your move. Moving house is an incredibly expensive process when you think about the deposit, the admin fees and any costs you incur whilst physically moving. Try and take the time to work out what your maximum spend for each of these areas will be, giving you a better chance of staying within your budget. Remember to budget for any issues, as you never know what can happen.

 

When Do You Want To Move?

Although it may not seem important during your initial planning stages, working out when you want to move will allow you to start planning all of the other little details. Whether it’s booking in your removal team, arranging a time to pick up your keys or organising new furniture to be delivered – all of this will be much easier once you have your moving date.

 

Have You Packed Everything Beforehand?

Although this may seem obvious, making sure you plan your packing beforehand will help save you a lot of stressful days rushing to get it done. Start packing small things in the weeks up to the move, ensuring you have plenty of time to pack your essentials in the run up to your moving day. Whilst you may not be able to pack everything right away, getting the bulk of it done beforehand will reduce a lot of stress.

 

Do You Need To Get Rid Of Anything Or Use Self Storage?

When moving to a new house it’s important to consider whether or not you need to hire a skip or hire out any self storage. Whilst it may not seem important now, getting these two things booked in before you move will help ensure everything runs smoothly and on time. If you’re hiring a skip, consider getting it a couple of weeks before you move to avoid any overlap.

 

Do You Need To Hire A Removal Team?

If you think you’re not going to be able to manage the move on your own, hiring a removal team is the best way to avoid any issues. Working with people that are trained to move heavy furniture and drive a heavy goods van will help take a lot of the stress off of you, especially if you’ve never moved house before.

 

Do You Have A Contingency Plan?

Finally, do you have a contingency plan? You never know what can go wrong during your move so it’s important you’re taking the time to plan out a couple of alternative options.
